Firstly it would be helpful for you to read this topic

http://www.ai-forum.org/topic.asp?forum_id=3&topic_id=17279

I have been designing an AI program for some time now and stumbled on this forum. I completely agree with this post: I came to the same conclusion that an AI cant learn without experiencing the world, interacting with it, having emotion and needs/desires. Therefore I was considering setting up a free website that modal an artificial world: a series of ‘dumb’ programs that the AI can interact with to fulfil its needs and desires, essentially to learn through interaction (like humans).

Modelling the physical world this way would be a massive undertaking in itself, to model every aspect of the physical world. Basically the idea is programmers create new ‘dumb’ programs and upload them for anyone trying to teach a program in this way. For example see the attached file (needs PowerPoint or ppt viewer), in this the shopkeeper program would reply to the AI programs request for an apple with you need 0.30 (currency: generic so no sign). Very simple representation but illustrates the point

Basically the idea is building a ‘virtual world’ that represents the physical one as best it can, calling on all programmers with interest to contribute by writing new programs for it, e.g. more shopkeepers selling more items

I would like your opinion on this: good or bad idea? Worth the time to set up? Would people contribute? Is this the only way a AI can ‘understand’?
What do you think? (I’m an ideas person but also a programmer trying desperately to bring AI to life)

The idea is brilliant but you dont really need to write a new software for a new shop do you? Instead write a virtual world that can handle all the request from your AI software and make the world grow from there. Or you can always write a software that can parse online text game to AI readable numbers(or strings or whatever) and link your software to it. Or write a bot for modable games(Half Life for example) and let it loose whacking humans online. It might not become a true AI(by true I mean human-like) but you can test its learning capabilities(among other things) that way.

Oops. I read your article and it seems that i had misunderstood your idea. My last two suggestions are completely unrelated to your project. I was thinking about a single entity at that time and I thought you were just looking for a testbed for it.

Maybe you must check our site, describing Tridimensional Understanding Engines (TUEs) a whole AI system based exclusively in 3D simulation.

Our computer-brain works on a dualistic basis.
In a usual daily life all we do is done logically,
under an influence of our feelings.
We don,t make any discovers.
On the other hand, in a religious practice
we learn to perceive and to operate:
1) Without the participation of the sense organs.
2) Without the participation of the logic mental processes.
When these conditions will be created, then
we will acquire new forces, new abilities.
We make new discovers.

The idea seems interesting. I'm sure many people would be interested in trying your website.

Came to the same obstacle. I'm building a robot now.
