| | | | | | posted 7/6/2010 10:37 | | | | | | | | | | So... I just bought the iHal app for my iTouch and I've been having fun training Hal on the go. I just learned about this site today and I did a lot with Alan earlier. But now for some reason no matter where I look on the site I can't find a link to Alan himself. I want to ask him how to make a Hal public but I can't find him. Can someone link me to his page?
Another question, if you tell Hal your name and later ask him the name will he say the name you said before or will he just tell you the name you entered using the "wrong" command? Do you need to use variables to do this? I think you need to type something like this: [VAR] but I'm not sure. Can someone explain this?
I was also wondering if it actually is possible to put the Hal from my ipod touch onto this website, and if it's possible to put a hal from this site on my ipod. As far as I can tell you can't but then again I've only been here for a day.

| | Hal will repeat precisely what you have taught him (meaning, the text you entered after "wrong"). As for variables: [var] is merely a notation, a placeholder indicating a number of different words (or phrases) appearing in a sentence in the same way. For example:
U>My name is Jack
A> Hi mommy
U> Wrong Hi Jack
A> Hi Jack
U> My name is Jill
A> Hi Jack
U> wrong Hi Jill
A> Hi Jill
This will create the pattern:
U> My name is [var]
A> Hi [var]
Hope that helps.

| | Yes it's possible. Click on the red Hal icon on the Home Page, and then when prompted, enter the UDID of your iPod Touch.
