i was talking to alan the other day and i started to think about how to teach my hal that trick alan can about learning new things. ex. if i say a word he doesnt know he ask "i don know what *** means. will you teach me. please." and then he learns.
then i came up with the idea of this pattern.

u>what is a (x)
a>i dont know what a (x) is please tell me.
u>(i tell what x is)
a>thank you! you help me learn.
u>what is a (x)
a>(he tells me what i told him)

ex.

u>what is an apple
a>i dont know what and apple is. please tell me
u>an apple is a fruit
a>thank you! you help me learn
u>what is and apple
a>an apple is a fruit

will he be able to remember what i told him the first time to use that as and asnwer the next time he get the same question?

I believe that might be still a little beyond what Hal can do for now.

As far as I understand, the current hal version can only learn from a 'right' and 'wrong' pattern. "Right" being when you continue the conversation, reinforcing what Hal said. And the usual "wrong" command.

It could, without doubt, be trained to ask what the unknown (x) was. But it would not be able to learn the definition of (x) unless that definition was taught through the 'wrong' command.

You could teach him to say that he didn't know what (x) is and then use the wrong command to teach him.
