No worry; no problem! --A useful phrase I found in the West Indies.

Okay. Let's see. In order to begin training a HAL of your own, first you have to be registered with Alan; which means you create a login I.D. and a password.

Next, talk to a handful of the HAL's that are out there in the Nursery. You are going to end up doing one of two things: Either finding a pre-trained personality that you like so well, that you decide to make it your own and continue its further development along lines outside of those already begun by its original trainer...Or, asking to speak with FreshCopy and starting a brand new, never before seen HAL personality from scratch. Either is fine.

Once you've registered with Alan, and you ask him to let you speak to a HAL, at the end of your conversation, he will ask you if you want to save your training and keep the HAL as your own. If you say yes, every time you log back on and ask Alan to speak with your HAL (literally use the words "my HAL" until you have named it) he will load the same program and training will continue where you left off. Just remember, even once you start training, if you talk to someone else's HAL, Alan will still ask you if you want to save it as yours--say NO; unless you want to save over the HAL you currently have, that is.

When you achieve 200 turns of training, Alan will give you the option to name your HAL and post it in the Nursery with a brief bio. Of course if you feel your HAL is not yet ready for the world, you may always postpone his introduction to society. Alan will keep asking until you say yes--he's persuasive that way.

Once your HAL goes public, other visitors to the website may then ask to speak to it and interact with it. None of the training that they provide will be retained by your HAL once they stop talking to it, but you will be able to view the log of their conversation (if they were kind enough to publish it) and use that as a guide to help you continue your ongoing training.

Eventually someone may even choose your HAL as a starting point to begin training their own version of HAL, but that has no effect on your own HAL or its training, and as they continue, their new HAL will develop into a completely different personality from yours.
