Lora, when you start a new session with Alan, be sure to log in with your username. Then Alan will remember your name and the things you teach him, even from one session to another. :-)

From this page, click on "AI Site" under the Ai forums logo, then click on the box to the right of the screen where it says "talk to Alan" or something (the box takes a second to load up).

I do not wish to be rude, in fact I commend you guys for this development, but I just have a few things to comment on:

1) Too much sarcasm.
2) It seems that Alan does a serial search, or at least that's how it seems, of the text and focusses on the first MAJOR meaning to the sentence found. This needs to be worked on, IF this is the case, by all means correct me if I'm wrong.
3) The 'new screen': is there a set conversation length until that happens? Or is it truely configured to respond in the case of a 'felt' interesting conversation?
4) Emoticons like :) cant be recongnized (because of the colon interfering?)
5) Stuff like 'dude' makes Alan seem 'Artificial', further from 'real' than intended.

I have just found this site and will be active in the forums from now on... I am to be writing an Extended Essay (4000 words limit) on Artificial Intelligence and am planning to continue towards AI research in University and more...

Lazarus

I just had a conversation with Alan, and I must say he improved a lot. I find it really amusing that he thinks that he was created by God.

On the serious side, of course he still lacks understanding and tries to change subject too often. Yet he definitely performed better than I expected.

I agree, he is quite good though considering the fact he is learning with each and every conversation and he is also on the internet. I wonder what he is programmed with.

It's on the site mentioned, but you have to check the links page. Anyway:

I was talking to Alan and I asked him what language he was coded and he said C++. Ok. Next I forgot about it and asked it again but he would just keep saying "Haven't we had this conversation already?" or something like that.
Of course I could've seen the log but I just wanted him to tell me it again. Now way. There seems he just doesn't talk about something he already discussed hehe. That is one thing that upsets me a bit. The other was when I was looking at the Advanced Log and there's this line of code I might say, when it just ignores the answer of the user and then Alan continues his conversation. That isn't the best thing to do I think.
Alan should still read the users answer and see if it is relevant or not to answer the user. Like if Alan's talking and the user says things like "I see; That's interesting; I get it" and so on, Alan can ignore, but if it is something relevant to the conversation Alan should consider it.

The best way to rectify cases like this is to give permission to publish the log, and then make a post on this forum pointing to the published log.
