The biggest problem with intelligent algorithms is that they limit options to what they think you want. For example, take the spam folder. I can't count the number of times that something that I wanted to read was in my email account's spam folder. I signed up for the crap; let me read it. Also, I am a rather odd person who likes to look up stuff on google that most people wouldn't find interesting. But enough about me: Let's say that the majority of people are not better off with their options limited. It's more of a societal problem that their options are limited from birth, but having sandbox AI is not the solution. If you want people to make wise decisions; try teaching them to be wiseónot forcing them. Or what if you have a savant who does poorly on the SAT's; does that preclude them from going to college since the algorithm says so?

Leaving Options Open is a matter for the Free-will Volition module in MindForth and the Ghost Perl Strong AI software.
